How to do a hard reset of Nokia E71

Sometimes, (for example when your phone is too slow), you have to do a hard reset of the phoneReset of Nokia E71 specially if you are like those (and me ;-) who like to test all the applications out there on your Nokia E71. Hard set it of  the phone enables you to remove everything you have installed on your phone and the default factory settings are enabled. It is just like reformatting your computer.

Warning

Please back up all the data on your Nokia E71 and the memory card before resetting the phone (if you do not know how to back up your personal data on the Nokia E71 give me a shout). There are lots of cases where users have reset their phone and realized later that they have lost all their personal data.

How to do a hard reset of Nokia E71
  • Switch on the phone
  • While the phone is the standby mode enter this code *#7370#
  • The phone would ask for a password, the default password is 12345 unless you have changed it before.
  • That is it you are done

But I do not want to loose my personal data

You might want to restore the factory settings of the Nokia E71 but you might not want to loose the personal data on the phone. This can be done by doing a ‘soft reset’.

Warning
Do not do a soft reset without backing up data on your phone and the memory card as backing your phone data is a good practice even if you are doing a ‘soft reset’

To do a ‘soft reset’

  • Switch on the phone
  • When the phone on the standby mode enter the code *#7780#
  • The factory settings would be restored and there will be no data loss.
  • Voila

Alternative method for hard reset of Nokia E71

There is alternate method to do a hard reset is prescribed as well. The steps involve

  • Switching off your phone
  • Press the *, 3 and the green key on the phone while starting the phone (do not ask me how, because when I tried I could not do it! and if you are successful then you should apply for a prize from Nokia)
  • The phone will ask for a password which by default is 12345 if you have not changed it in the past.

I would like to remind readers again to backup their personal data from the phone and the memory card before trying to do a reset of their Nokia E71.

While pressing * 3 and the green call button, press the power button. Hold the four button for about 30 seconds (or until u see the phone powering up) This will hard reset the phone.

Green + * + 3 + power button is for only for jedis. If you are not one, you can do this:
1 - remove the e71 battery cover;
2 - remove the e71 battery just enough for you to be able to put it back with the phone facing you. Placing the end of the battery touching the camera lens is more than enough;
3 - press green, + * + 3 and slide the battery back into place and hold it all until the nokia sign pops in;
Voilá!

Good luck!

Dude, I'm having issues with my E71. By some weird reason, the phone resets itself, and sometimes it even stays off. Do you know if the hard or soft reseting fixes this? Also, I dunno how to back up all my phone info, which is very precious to me at the moment. How can I do that? send me a shout... Thanx

Hi, doest it remove the network provider applications and logos?
Because I want to remove them as well....

It should remove all the settings. The only scenario in which this might not be working is where the telephone service provider sold you the phone and Nokia customized the phone for the telephone service provider.

Can I still hard reset my phone even if I forgot my lock code? I changed the default code & forgot the new one.

@annonymous The best option would be to take the phone to Nokia care and get it flashed.

Hi,

I own a Nokia E71. The s/w has to be updated. so, I have gone to contacts>options>mark all>copy to memory card and copied all the contacts to memory card.

Now after the update, I have inserted the memory card and its showing corrupted. I have 800 contacts which can not be missed. So, pls help me

@anonymous you should first backup the memory card on to your computer or a pend drive.

If you have copied the contacts properly they would be in
memory card directory >other>contacts>

The contacts should be in VCF format. Once you have copied the contacts you can transfer them to your phone.

Let me know if this works for you or not?
